McCain Buckles to Far Right… Wanted to Pick Lieberman

August 31st, 2008 No comments

According to an article from the New York Times, John McCain wanted to pick Senator Joe Lieberman as his running mate. The only problem, the far right hates Lieberman. (Don’t worry, so does the far left). So, once again, Maverick McCain proves once again he is not a maverick afterall. Instead of picking who he really wanted, he chose someone he met only once and who has absolutely no experience. Good job pandering, Mr. McCain. Good job indeed.

For weeks, advisers close to the campaign said, Mr. McCain had wanted to name as his running mate his good friend Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, the Democrat turned independent. But by the end of last weekend, the outrage from Christian conservatives over the possibility that Mr. McCain would fill out the Republican ticket with Mr. Lieberman, a supporter of abortion rights, had become too intense to be ignored. So wrong, yet so funny. This woman actually thinks she can make the decisions for the country. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Palin is a Flip-Flopper

August 31st, 2008 No comments

First we saw it with McCain. Bush’s tax cuts are bad, he voted against them. Now that he’s running for president, they are good. Well, now we see it with Palin’s past voting record. The Anchorage Daily News reports:

The Alaska governor campaigned in 2006 on a build-the-bridge platform, telling Ketchikan residents she felt their pain when politicians called them “nowhere.” They’re still feeling pain today in Ketchikan, over Palin’s subsequent decision to use the bridge funds for other projects — and over the timing of her announcement, which they say came in a pre-dawn press release that seemed aimed at national news deadlines.

“I think that’s when the campaign for national office began,” said Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Weinstein noted, the state is continuing to build a road on Gravina Island to an empty beach where the bridge would have gone — because federal money for the access road, unlike the bridge money, would have otherwise been returned to the federal government.

So, she was for it before she was against it. What else does she lie about?

Palin Knows Foreign Policy Because Alaska is Near Russia

August 31st, 2008 No comments

Cindy McCain was talking to reporters about Palin’s experience with national security.

STEPHANOPOULOS: But she has no national security experience.

McCAIN: You know, the experience that she comes from is what she’s done in government, and remember, Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia. It’s not as if she doesn’t understand what’s at stake here.

I didn’t realize that the most remote part of Russia was threatening to the most remote part of Alaska. Thank God the beauty queen is Governor. We could have been attacked by the Russians!

In other news, Palin is still protecting the US from the dangerous polar bears.

An endangered species is an endangered species, no matter how much you want their land.

GOP Alaska State Senator: Palin Not Ready to Be Gov/VP

August 31st, 2008 No comments

According to the Anchorage Daily News, colleagues of Palin think that she is not experienced enough to be Vice-President. What’s even better, some of her critics are also Republicans!

State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to give her the news.

“She’s not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?” said Green, a Republican from Palin’s hometown of Wasilla. “Look at what she’s done to this state. What would she do to the nation?”

So, John McCain, a 74 year old candidate, who has had cancer twice, picks someone that has no experience to lead to be his VP. People in his own party and from her state think she’s bad for the job, why should you think any different?

“Sarah Palin Lied- She’s a Grandmother to Trig Paxson Van Palin”

August 30th, 2008 3 comments

DailyKos has a great article questioning whether Sara Palin’s youngest kid is really hers at all. In fact, people are speculating he is her grandson. All the evidence given in the article, no one knowing she was pregnant, her not showing, flying while in labor but no one seems to remember he being in labor, her daughter missing months of school at the same time, it’s hard to dismiss. Head on over and read the article and decide for yourself. For me, this makes me wonder how trustworthy she, and McCain, really are. Make sure you Digg the article here.

John McCain is Out of His Mind

August 30th, 2008 No comments

by By Paul Begala from CNN

John McCain needs what Kinky Friedman calls “a checkup from the neck up.”

In choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, he is not thinking “outside the box,” as some have said. More like out of his mind.

Palin a first-term governor of a state with more reindeer than people, will have to put on a few pounds just to be a lightweight. Her personal story is impressive: former fisherman, mother of five. But that hardly qualifies her to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

For a man who is 72 years old and has had four bouts with cancer to have chosen someone so completely unqualified to become president is shockingly irresponsible. Suddenly, McCain’s age and health become central issues in the campaign, as does his judgment.

In choosing this featherweight, McCain passed over Tom Ridge, a decorated combat hero, a Cabinet secretary and the former two-term governor of the large, complex state of Pennsylvania.

He passed over Mitt Romney, who ran a big state, Massachusetts; a big company, Bain Capital; and a big event, the Olympics.

He passed over Kay Bailey Hutchison, the Texas senator who is knowledgeable about the military, good on television and — obviously — a woman.

He passed over Joe Lieberman, his best friend in the Senate and fellow Iraq Kool-Aid drinker.

He passed over former congressman, trade negotiator and budget director Rob Portman.

And he also passed over Mike Huckabee, the governor of Arkansas.

For months, the McCainiacs have said they will run on his judgment and experience. In his first presidential decision, John McCain has shown that he is willing to endanger his country, potentially leaving it in the hands of someone who simply has no business being a heartbeat away from the most powerful, complicated, difficult job in human history.

John McCain’s VP Pick is No Maverick

August 29th, 2008 No comments

Politics as usual for the McCain campaign. His VP pick, Sarah Palin, is no different than the rest of the Republicans. In fact, the only reason McCain picked her is to try and woo some of the Hillary Clinton supporters. He can no longer criticize Obama for lack of experience when his own VP candidate has even less. Not only is she a Hail Mary pass by the Republicans, she is involved in a scandal of her own in Alaska. She is under investigation for her firing of a state official, Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. She has been instructed to hand over documents and recordings of telephone conversations as part of the probe, which grew out of allegations she sacked Monegan for refusing to fire her former brother-in-law from the state police.

Alaska legislators on Monday voted to spend up to $100,000 to investigate Gov. Sarah Palin’s controversial firing of former state Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. Read more.

Nice to see it’s politics as usual for the Republican Party. We need a change. Barack Obama is that change.
