Or so says members of a Baptist church out of Kansas. Members of the church showed up this weekend in Smyrna, Tennessee at funerals for soldiers to chant their message that ?God is punishing American soldiers for defending a country that harbors gays.? Rev. Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist in Kansas, contends that American soldiers are being killed in Iraq as vengeance from God for protecting a country that harbors gays. The church members carried signs and shouted things such as ?God hates fags? and ?God hates you.?

Residents in Smyrna weren?t very appreciative. They chased some of the anti-gay church members through town yelling ?God bless America!? as they ran after them. ?My husband is over there, so I?m here to show my support,? 41-year-old Connie Ditmore said as she waved an American flag and as tears came to her eyes. ?To do this at a funeral is disrespectful of a family, no matter what your beliefs are.?

In other news, an unusually large number of tornadoes have just dropped down out of the Kansas sky. The odd thing is, these twisters are only destroying Baptist churches. Hmm?
