U.S. Must Protect Iraq From Terror

August 30th, 2005 4 comments

Bush is such a piece of shit. His new reason for staying in Iraq is to protect it from terrorists. Wait, didn’t we invade because they were terrorists? Because Saddam had something to do with 9/11? Because he had WMDs? Because he was a danger to US Freedom? How is Bush going to spin the biggest blunder of the 21st Century next? Now that we have created all these terrorists in Iraq, we have to deal with them. People are comparing Iraq to Vietnam, but I think its going to be worse.

President Bush on Tuesday answered growing anti-war protests with a fresh reason for American troops to continue fighting in Iraq: protection of the country’s vast oil fields that he said would otherwise fall under the control of terrorist extremists. Read more…

God is Killing Our Soldiers

August 28th, 2005 No comments

Or so says members of a Baptist church out of Kansas. Members of the church showed up this weekend in Smyrna, Tennessee at funerals for soldiers to chant their message that ?God is punishing American soldiers for defending a country that harbors gays.? Rev. Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist in Kansas, contends that American soldiers are being killed in Iraq as vengeance from God for protecting a country that harbors gays. The church members carried signs and shouted things such as ?God hates fags? and ?God hates you.?

Residents in Smyrna weren?t very appreciative. They chased some of the anti-gay church members through town yelling ?God bless America!? as they ran after them. ?My husband is over there, so I?m here to show my support,? 41-year-old Connie Ditmore said as she waved an American flag and as tears came to her eyes. ?To do this at a funeral is disrespectful of a family, no matter what your beliefs are.?

In other news, an unusually large number of tornadoes have just dropped down out of the Kansas sky. The odd thing is, these twisters are only destroying Baptist churches. Hmm?

Bush Drops Some More

August 26th, 2005 No comments

A new Gallup Poll reflects further erosion in President George W. Bush’s job approval rating, continuing the slow but steady decline evident throughout the year so far. The poll — conducted Aug. 22-25 — puts Bush’s job approval rating at 40% and his disapproval rating at 56%. Both are the most negative ratings of the Bush administration. Bush’s previous low point in approval was 44% (July 25-28, 2005) and his previous high point in disapproval was 53% (June 24-26, 2005). The Moderate Voice

Sinking Even Lower

August 25th, 2005 2 comments

Just when you thought cable news couldn’t sink any lower, cable news sinks lower. Two weeks ago, Fox News wrongly identified the house of Randy and Ronnell Vorick as a terrorist lair:

In what Fox News officials concede was a mistake, John Loftus, a former U.S. prosecutor, gave out the address Aug. 7, saying it was the home of a Middle Eastern man, Iyad K. Hilal, who was the leader of a terrorist group with ties to those responsible for the July 7 bombings in London.

Hilal, whom Loftus identified by name during the broadcast, moved out of the house about three years ago. But the consequences were immediate for the Voricks.

He gave out the address! On national TV! That’s practically an invitation for local thugs to firebomb the house.

But now for the worst part. Not only has Fox not retracted this report, but here is Loftus’ brain dead pseudo-excuse for broadcasting the Voricks’ address to 20 million viewers in the first place:

“I thought it might help police in that area now that we have positively identified a terrorist living in [Orange County],” he said.

GOP Senator Says Iraq Looking Like Vietnam

August 21st, 2005 No comments

A leading Republican senator and prospective presidential candidate said Sunday that the war in Iraq has destabilized the Middle East and is looking more like the Vietnam conflict from a generation ago.

Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel, who received two Purple Hearts and other military honors for his service in Vietnam, reiterated his position that the United States needs to develop a strategy to leave Iraq. Hagel scoffed at the idea that U.S. troops could be in Iraq four years from now at levels above 100,000, a contingency for which the Pentagon is preparing. Read more…

Ex-Marine Says Public Version of Saddam Capture Fiction

August 20th, 2005 No comments

Who knows if this is true. It wouldn’t be too shocking if this Marine’s account is the true account.

A former U.S. Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said the public version of his capture was fabricated.

Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina Wednesday as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army.

“I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced,” Abou Rabeh said.

“We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed,” he said.

He said Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor. Then they shouted at him in Arabic: “You have to surrender. … There is no point in resisting.”

“Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam’s capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well,” Abou Rabeh said.

Abou Rabeh was interviewed in Lebanon.

Evangelical Scientists Refute Gravity With New ‘Intelligent Falling’ Theory

August 18th, 2005 No comments

As the debate over the teaching of evolution in public schools continues, a new controversy over the science curriculum arose Monday in this embattled Midwestern state. Gas Prices to Reach $5 Next Year

August 18th, 2005 2 comments

An oil expert and author who correctly forecast $3 per gallon gasoline in the United States this year says the price will reach $5 next year.

Craig Smith, author of “Black Gold Stranglehold,” told the Chicago Sun-Times there’s also a possibility the price could hit $10 per gallon if terrorists strike a major Middle East oil field.

Last year, Smith predicted $3-a-gallon gas and $65-a-barrel crude oil prices this year, and now says oil prices will jump to $80 a gallon by the end of 2006.

Meanwhile, he said complaining about the current spike makes no sense.

“Why are they charging higher prices for gas? Because people will pay it,” he told the Sun-Times.

Smith also said the United States could protect itself by using untapped crude reserves in Alaska, Colorado, Utah, off the California coast and in the Gulf of Mexico.

“Blame this on ourselves. This country has not built a new refinery in 30 years, we stopped new oil exploration … and put a moratorium on offshore drilling,” he said.
